image of Meta AI glasses on a deskMeta AI glasses look like an ordinary pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses. But look a little closer, and you’ll find a camera, open-ear speakers, microphones, and a voice assistant tucked into the frame.

Say “Hey Meta,” and they’ll snap a photo, play a playlist, call your mom, or translate a menu on vacation. No phone required. (Your thumbs get the day off.)

Meta AI glasses come in three brand families: Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Meta’s own Meta Glasses line.

Patients have been asking us about them more and more, so here’s the rundown: what they do, the commands people use most, what they look like, and how prescription lenses and vision insurance factor into the price.

What Do Meta AI Glasses Do?

Short answer: quite a bit. Meta AI glasses take hands-free photos and video, play audio, handle calls and messages, and answer questions about what you’re looking at. You control them with your voice, or with a button and touch controls on the frame.

Hands-Free Photos and Video

The newest Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) frames have a 12 MP camera and 3K Ultra HD video recording built right into the frame.

These are great for making reels and showing a first-person perspective. No one likes a phone in their face, so these glasses and sunglasses capture the moment more authentically.

Patients also say they feel much more secure recording moments and experiences.

A Voice Assistant With a Camera

Meta AI uses the camera to answer questions about whatever sits in front of you. Point your glasses at a long email, a fridge full of ingredients, or a street sign, and ask away.

Calls, Messages, and Music

Open-ear speakers let you hear calls, music, and podcasts while you stay aware of your surroundings. On Gen 3 frames, six built-in microphones filter out over 90% of background noise, so callers hear you clearly on a windy patio or a crowded street (or in the stands at a Frisco RoughRiders game).

What Are the Most Useful “Hey Meta” Commands?

Here are some of the most popular ones. Start each one with “Hey Meta,” or press the action button on newer frames when talking out loud isn’t practical.

Say This What It Does When It Helps
“Take a picture.” / “Record a video.” Captures a photo or clip from your point of view Reels, concerts, your kid’s soccer game
“Can you summarize this?” Condenses the text you’re looking at Emails and pages with paragraphs of information
“Can you translate this to English?” Translates signs, menus, and other text Traveling to other countries
“Scan this QR code.” Reads a QR code without your phone Menus, flyers, event signage
“Play music.” Starts audio through the open-ear speakers Walks, workouts, commutes
“Look at these food ingredients. What can I make for lunch?” Suggests meals based on what it sees Using up what’s in the fridge
“Call Mom.” / “Make a video call on Messenger.” Places a voice or video call Check-ins when your hands are full
“Remind me to pick up the cake in 30 minutes.” Sets a timed reminder Errands and to-do lists

What Do Meta Glasses Look Like?

Most Meta glasses look like the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer, a frame that’s been a style staple for decades. The lineup has grown, though, and now includes aviators, cat-eyes, rectangles, and wraparound sport frames.

Ray-Ban Meta: Classic Styles, Two Ways

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) offers three shapes, the Aviator, the Wayfarer, and the Zena cat-eye, with 27 frame and lens pairings to choose from.

Not into the camera? Ray-Ban Meta Audio is Meta’s first pair of AI glasses that come without one. You still get open-ear speakers, hands-free calls, and Meta AI, just no photos or video.

Weighing 43 grams, they’re the lightest pair Meta makes. A full charge gets you up to 12 hours, and the case holds another 48.

Pick from two shapes: the retro Clubmaster or the clean, rectangular Burbank. There are 23 color and lens options, and both styles accept most prescriptions.

Oakley Meta: Built for Athletes

Oakley Meta frames lean toward athletes and outdoor training. The lineup includes the Oakley Meta HSTN and the wraparound Oakley Meta Vanguard, and both offer Oakley’s Prizm™ lenses, which boost color and contrast outdoors.

If performance eyewear interests you, our sports vision exam helps match lenses to your sport.

The LISA Edition

Calling all LISA fans! The LISA collection was released recently by Meta and was designed in collaboration with international music icon LISA.

There are two styles to choose from, both starting at $399 and both prescription-friendly. The Meta Adventurer LISA Edition pairs a Moonlit Sky frame with blush-tinted lenses, while the Meta Capri LISA Edition is a darker Eclipse cat-eye with grey lenses.

We’re currently working on getting these for our Frisco store, so stay tuned.

Can You Get Meta AI Glasses With Prescription Lenses?

Yes, and this is where Avant-Garde Optometry comes in. Most Meta AI glasses accept prescription lenses, so you don’t have to choose between using the tech and seeing clearly.

Meta also makes two frames specifically for prescription wearers: Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics (Gen 2). Both support nearly all prescriptions, with interchangeable nose pads and optician-adjustable temple tips for a custom fit.

You’ll need a current prescription before ordering lenses. If yours has expired, schedule a comprehensive eye exam first.

How Much Do Meta Glasses Cost?

Meta glasses start at $299 for the frame, before prescription lenses. Your final cost depends on the style, the lenses you choose, and whether you have vision insurance. Here’s a quick look at starting prices:

Line and Style Starting Price (Frame)
Meta Glasses (Nova, Capri) $299
Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2) $379
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) $449
Ray-Ban Meta Audio $349
Oakley Meta Vanguard $499

Starting prices as listed by Meta in October 2026. Meta runs sales often, so ask our team about current pricing.

Does Vision Insurance Cover Meta Glasses?

It depends on whether you add a prescription. Most vision plans cover part of the frame if you get prescription lenses put inside.

Vision insurance does not cover Meta glasses frames without a prescription.

You can also put HSA or FSA dollars toward prescription lenses and coatings. We typically look up everyone’s insurance two days before their appointment.
