Diabetic Eye Exams
Vision and health insurances along with numerous health organizations are enforcing communication between primary care doctors or endocrinologists and optometrists. Diabetes is a multi-faceted disease that presents differently in each individual. 20% of cases show ophthalmic signs of diabetes before they are formally diagnosed by their primary care doctor.
Avant-Garde Optometry performs an extensive examination on all diabetic and pre-diabetic patients. We either dilate the patient to assess the entire health of the retina or we take 8 steroscopic views of the retina with the Optomap. All findings will be disseminated to the patient’s primary care doctor or endocrinologist. Dr. Yee worked extensively with diabetic retinopathy at the Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.
