Because we want our patients to live their most active lives, we commonly see Triathletes and people who do Ironmans. Because Triathlons and Ironmans require that you train several hours in the sun doing different athletic activities, we fit in Rudy Project.Â
Rudy Project Glasses for Every Sport
The Rudy Project is sold based on different physical activities. Different tints and colored lenses can improve your game in golf, tennis, pickleball, and shooting.
For Ironmans, athletes commonly start the race in the dark or at dawn, then bike and run when the sun is at its highest. We sell transition sun wear for these races. They will be lightly tinted even in the dark, but will get darker the more UV rays that hit the lens.Â
Also, people with large, near-sighted, far-sighted prescriptions, or multifocal prescriptions find it difficult to order wrapped polarized sun wear in their prescription. Rudy project has several models of sun wear that include adding an insert, which can accommodate large prescriptions or multifocal prescriptions.Â
For sports like football and soccer, sun wear is unfortunately prohibited. Because these athletes are exposed to large amounts of sunlight, they should always get an annual eye exam.Â
Why Sports Protective Eyewear Matters
Large amounts of sun can cause solar retinopathy, early cataracts, and photokeratitis. A comprehensive eye examination can look for all of these pathologies.Â
We know the vast benefits of sunscreen, and the same should be said for polarized lenses. Nobody wants retinal damage, early cataracts, or early wrinkles around the eyes. Once people reach their 40s, you can see who used polarized eyewear and who didn’t.Â
